C.  The importance of integrity and personal responsibility in their daily life.

D.  Self-discipline and sense of accomplishment.

E.  Leadership and teamwork skills, including basic drill and marching skills.

F.  Enhanced communication skills.

AFJROTC HONOR CODE

ALL CA-942 Cadet Group cadets are required to memorize and comply with the cadet honor code.

“I WILL NOT LIE, CHEAT, STEAL – NOR TOLERATE THOSE WHO DO.”

AFJROTC VALUES

(APPLY EACH ONE TO YOUR LIFE AND LEADERSHIP)

1.  Integrity First – An unfaltering devotion to honesty, truthfulness, doing one’s duty and doing what is right.

2.  Service Before Self – Leaders take care of their people. Team members work together and support each other. Serving others (individual, community, and the nation) is considered a                  privilege. Ask yourself – “What can I do to serve others, before thinking of myself?”

3.  Excellence In All We Do – Always do your best in every undertaking, whether in or outside of school.

HARASSMENT AND HAZING

Sexual harassment and hazing are strictly prohibited. Any type of physical, verbal, or mental abuse is not allowed in AFJROTC. Foul or vulgar language (especially in the AFJROTC classroom) is also prohibited. Infractions should be reported immediately to the SASI/ASI. Any cadet who violates these rules will be subject to unit disciplinary action. Cadets will be reminded of these policies each semester. In addition, the cadets will be informed of the PSUSD and CCHS rules against sexual harassment. Those who violate these rules will be reported as required by law.

SUPPLEMENTAL GUIDELINES

1.  The Unit will use WINGS as directed by AFJROTC.

2.  Special and Operational orders will be used for all unit business.

3.  Goals and objectives for the year will be developed by the group Leadership before 10              October each year.

MILITARY COURTESY AND CONDUCT

1. Cadets are expected to observe correct military conduct at all times. Such behavior will reflect credit upon themselves, their parents/guardians, the Cadet Group, Cathedral City High School, Cathedral City, and the United States Air Force.

2.  CLASSROOM PROCEDURES: At the beginning of the class the senior cadet NCO and/or flight sergeant will call the class to attention. The class will then recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Following the pledge, the senior cadet NCO and/or flight sergeant will say “Report!”. Each element leader beginning with the first element will salute senior cadet NCO and/or flight sergeant with the reply “First element all present and/or accounted for Sir/Ma’am” or “Cadet (last name) absent.” After the senior cadet NCO and/or flight sergeant returns the first element leader’s salute, the second element reports and so on. After the last element has reported, the senior cadet NCO and/or flight sergeant will report flight attendance status to the senior cadet officer and/or flight commander by executing an about-face, saluting and stating: “Sir/Ma’am all present and/or accounted for,“ or “Cadet (last name) absent.” The senior cadet and/or flight commander will return the salute and execute a facing movement to the SASI/ASI salute and report: “Sir/Ma’am, all present and/or accounted for,” or “Cadet (last name)absent.” The SASI/ASI will return and salute and order the cadets to be seated.

A.  Cadets who enter the classroom after the tardy bell has rung will stop just inside the door until recognized and told to report. The cadets(s) will then individually report to the SASI/ASI saying “Sir, Cadet (last name) requests permission to take his/her seat.” Any excuse slip will be presented to the instructor.

B.  All cadets are expected to follow the following rules while in the AFJROTC classroom.

(1.)  Remove headgear before coming indoors and do not place back on the head until leaving the classroom.

(2.)  Get rid of chewing gum before entering the classroom.

(3.)  No eating or drinking (except water) is allowed during class time.

(4.)  No electronic equipment will be operated during class time.(unless told otherwise)

(5.)  When the instructors are absent cadets will follow instructions given by the senior cadet in charge.

(6.)  Listen while others are speaking.

(7.)  Do not sleep or slouch in class. If sleepy ask for permission to stand temporarily in the back of the room.

(8.)  Inform the instructor if you are ill.

(9.)  Do not demonstrate affection toward others while in the AFJROTC uniform or in the                                     AFJROTC classroom. ( This can be referred to as a PDA, Public Display of Affection)

(10.)  Wear the cadet uniform correctly on the required uniform days; cadets who do not wear the uniform on the required uniform days will be recommended for the drop from the AFJROTC                                      program. Missing uniform will also result in the pulling of your 341's.

(11.)  During lunch periods the entire classroom is designated a general purpose area, open for work on model aircraft, operation of the flight simulator, playing chess, doing homework (including computer use), and eating lunch. Cadets are responsible for their guests should they choose to bring a guest to the room. Cadets are expected to keep the classroom clean and orderly.

3.  CADET EVALUATION BOARD (CEB): The CEB is responsible for reviewing cadet performance,                  either for promotion or corrective/disciplinary action. The Board normally is comprised of the Group Vice            Commander (President/chair), the Support Squadron Commander, the Operations Squadron                              Commander, the Personnel Officer, the Senior Enlisted Advisor, and a first-year cadet. Board members will be published in Special Orders at the beginning of each semester. Changes must be approved by the SASI/ASI. Recommendations of the Board will be confidential until they are approved by the Group Commander and the SASI/ASI. Promotion orders will be published by the Group Administration and Personnel Officers and signed by the Group Commander. The SASI and the ASI are the final reviewing authorities. The results will also be added to cadet’s personnel records. The results of the disciplinary actions will be kept on a “need to know” basis. Special Orders are not published for disciplinary actions. However, the results will be added to the cadet’s personnel record.

     a.  The Board will convene at least once a month. Additional meetings may be called for special reasons, as approved by the SASI/ASI.

     b.  Publication of Special Orders must be published within 5 school days of the CEB meeting.

  • MILITARY COURTESY:                                                                      The practice of saying YES/NO SIR/MA’AM to instructors and to cadets who are senior is always observed in the cadet classroom, on trips (in uniform), during special events and when conducting unit business/meetings/practices. Such responses reflect the long-established military courtesies, which will soon become a habit even though you may find them difficult at first. The instructors tend to enforce strict military courtesy throughout the course of instruction, during classroom and drill practice.

  • PHONE COURTESY:                                                                        When answering the phone in the AFJROTC classroom use the following statement: “Cathedral City High School Air Force Junior ROTC, Cadet (your name), may I help you?”

SALUTING, PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE, AND NATIONAL ANTHEM

Customs and Courtesies

  • The salute is a military exchange of greeting the world over. Military personnel considers the salute courteous and respectful greeting. It is one of the oldest traditions binding military professionals together.

  • You will be taught the proper manner and the rules that govern its uses among the military services. There are special rules that govern saluting at Cathedral City High School.

  • When outdoors and in uniform at CCHS, saluting is required. Salute (greet) when you recognize a cadet as an officer and eye contact is made with him/her, within a reasonable distance.

  • The salute is rendered indoors only when the cadets are reporting to the cadet officer (for example in the hallways, the CEB) or the SASI/ASI. When entering a classroom or the instructor’s office, cadets should knock once and wait to be told to enter/come in. The proper sequence of reporting includes saluting and stating “Sir/Ma’am, Cadet (rank) (last name) reporting as ordered.” The cadet holds the salute until it is returned or otherwise acknowledged by the officer. When the purpose of the meeting is complete, the cadet again salutes, the salute is returned and the cadet exits by the most direct exit.

  • Cadets not in uniform may salute as if they were in uniform.

  • If a cadet observes the American Flag being raised or lowered from any Flagstaff, he/she will assume the position of attention, render the hand salute (if in uniform) and hold it until the flag has reached its final position (up, down, or half-mast). If the cadet is in civilian clothing he/she will assume the position of attention, remove headgear, place the right hand over the heart (with or without headgear) and remain at attention until the flag raising ceremony has been completed.

  • If the Pledge of Allegiance is recited and the cadet is in uniform indoors.  The cadet will stand at attention, face the flag and recite the pledge.

  • If the Pledge of Allegiance is recited and the cadet is in uniform outdoors, the cadet should stand at attention, remain silent, face the flag, and render the hand salute.

  • If the Pledge of Allegiance is recited and the cadet is not in uniform and is either indoors or outdoors, the cadet should stand at attention, face the flag, place the right hand over the heart and recite the pledge.

  • If the National Anthem is being played and a cadet is in uniform and indoors, the cadet should face the flag if one is present.

  •  If the National Anthem is being played and a cadet is in uniform and outdoors, the cadet should come to attention, face the flag, and salute. If no flag is visible and the music is recorded, the cadet should simply face towards the music and salute, while the music plays. (Air Force JROTC athletic clothes are considered a uniform only for this purpose.)

  • If the National Anthem is being played and a cadet is not in uniform and outdoors, the cadet will stand at attention, face the flag, remove headgear, and place the right hand over the heart (holding the headgear in the right hand). If indoors and in civilian clothing, the cadet will come to attention and face the flag (if visible), until the Anthem is completed.

  • If a cadet is late for formation, he/she will approach the cadet or the person in charge, come to a halt 3 steps away, salute, and request permission to fall-in. If a cadet is late for class, he/she will approach the person in charge, salute, and request permission to join the class.

  • Cadet Officers and Cadet Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO’s) should correct saluting errors in a courteous and helpful manner. The cadet being corrected will not be disrespectful to the cadet making the correction nor will the cadet correcting be disrespectful to the cadet being corrected. Remember, this is a greeting, a custom, and a sign of respect.
